Innovative Technology
Powerline
Networking
Powerline is a
technology which provides network connectivity over
existing electrical wiring in a building, there is
no additional wiring needed. Simply connect the
Powerline networking box to an existing power
socket, and you get networking intrastate instantly.
The new Powerline networking boxes can provide
transmission rates of between 85Mbps to 200Mbps.
As a
wired/wireless LAN alternative choice, the Powerline
series transforms your existing electrical wiring
into a functioning network without additional
cabling efforts or suffering from disrupt connection
wirelessly.
Case Study for Powerline
Networking
In July 2007,
3Tek installed a new Windows SBS Server into a local
nursing home. The server at this stage had four
workstations around the building for Administrative
purposes. Workstations were strategically placed
around the building where existing network points
existed.
In May 2008 new software was
added to the system, which required input from
carers on a regular basis. This meant that three new
computers would be needed in hallways and central
rooms. However network points did not exist where
these computers were required. Because of the
locations and expensive wiring it would be a time
consuming and cumbersome job.
3Tek were able
to advice our client, that they could use BELKIN
POWERLINE NETWORKING ADAPTERS. This basically
allowed the client to turn any NORMAL POWERPOINT
into a NETWORK POINT, simply by plugging in this
adapter. One was put near the main communications
cabinet, and one was put each new workstation, and
within minutes the new computers were able to
connect to the existing network using the Powerline
networking adapters.
